About Us
Safe Surrender Site Incorporated is a Non-Profit Organization that was started by Samuel Anderson. Many years ago Samuel was in his dentists’ office the day after Christmas just before leaving for a flight to Japan and his dentist was telling him about a newborn baby he found in a trash bin at one of the apartments he owns and rents to tenants.
"After hearing that story it just hit me...I got mad. I just couldn't think of such a thing happening and why doesn't anyone have anything in place for newborn infants to be safe"?
At that time the new Safe Surrender Site laws were being introduced in California and this was the beginning of turning the tide of finding dead baby's. "This was a good start and I commend all those people and organizations that went forward against many odds to get these laws on the books, they worked hard and God is going to bless them", says Anderson. Currently, there are 47 States with these laws to help newborns and their mothers.
"What I saw is we were getting these laws onto the books, but there was no true one solution to allowing any person at any time from any computer to look up where they can go should they need to find a safe haven site for themselves or for a friend, it just wasn't there". This is where Safe Surrender Site Incorporated came to be.
"I spoke with many people about it and they all were really excited about this and felt it would work and that it was needed”, Anderson said. The most difficult part was finding those people who would be interested in serving on the board including help build the site because financially this was a huge tag.
"I wasn't about to let this stop me", said Anderson. "I had to find out a way to continue this no matter what until we had something to build on". This is where he got the idea to use the EmployACT Enterprise Platform from one of the companies he and his partners at Tekbrokers VENTURES, LLC owns. "It's a system that can start building a company right away from the start. It can be easily designed from the get-go to start an online company with at least 50% of the work completed or better". It didn't take long for the partners to agree to this. It was a five-hundred thousand dollar donation.
"We still needed funds to start this and the money just wasn’t there”, said Anderson. After months of trying to find donors to participate Anderson took it into his own hands and just went forward.
Safe Surrender Site, Inc. still did not have the money needed to launch and it came down to just one thing. Do we do it or not? This is where Samuel Anderson and his wife Akemi stood up and just went for it. "We put up the money ourselves and all the time and effort went into this all by ourselves with the help of some very talented technology developers that work for us whom we paid out of our own pockets".
Samuel looked for a board of directors very carefully and asked many people who he felt would be able to understand what this is all about and be able to help with their various talents. "We have a good board of directors for the beginning", Anderson says. "I'm confident that we can move forward and have a good start because I need all the help I can get and when you have the thoughts and minds of others backing you up and giving their ideas to you, it makes it much easier".
Safe Surrender Site is the one place, one system, one time and every time for anyone, anywhere, any time to conduct a search and find the location nearest to them with alternatives and assistance if it is available in that area. We are recruiting taxi companies to give free rides including information on adoption and counseling, someone to talk to when you need it. We're still in our infant stage, but we're growing each day that goes by.
What about time spent on this site? "I personally donate about 2 hours each day on SSS", says Anderson. "With my schedule that I have I can only do this with little time every day, because until you get volunteers, who else is going to do it"? "We need volunteers and they can help in many ways".
The biggest task is entering all the information into the site that has been verified one at a time in each town and city and county in every state across the country. This is time consuming and the cost alone is staggering for that information. If you have some time to offer or information that would be good for this site, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Asked what is Safe Surrender Site? "It's a movement that's life saving, not just a web site", says Anderson.Safe Surrender Site is going to be THE one place on the Internet for mothers of newborns to find out all their options and providing all the information needed for them.
